Considering client needs, environment, and safety
Knowing exactly where to start when prescribing a shower commode can be tricky for any OT. With the need to consider the client, their current and future needs, their caregivers, their environment plus how they are going to use the commode, it can very quickly go wrong if a thorough assessment is not undertaken. This workshop will take a deep dive into all things commodes including consideration of risk, integration with the environment, effective trials and knowledge of a range of options for every client and their unique needs and circumstances.
This workshop will cover:
Comprehensive assessment processes including risk assessment of the person and the environment relative to MSCC prescription.
Detailed analysis of MSCC specifications including postural supports, aperture, and customising options.
Strategies for safe and effective AT trials and implementation.
Detailed product reviews across the spectrum of options from off the shelf to customisable, power and travel MSCCs.
Case study examples from clinicians experienced in working with people with complex and progressive conditions.
