Topics Covered - Workshop 2

Join us for workshop two to build on skills and homework completed in session one to empower occupational therapists with the knowledge and confidence needed to address occupational sexuality and intimacy topics. 

· Finding resources - review of Homework from session one.

· Maintaining trauma-informed practice

· LGBTIQA+ respectful practice (brief overview – further 2-hour session available)

· Sexual Safety for staff (brief overview)

· Common sexual difficulties

· Ways of enhancing intimacy via an OT Lense.

· Resources and referral options.

About the Presenter:  

Anita Brown-Major (she/her) is an Occupational therapist who is passionate about the recognition of all people as sexual beings. Anita has worked for over 25 years in subacute rehabilitation and founded Thrive Rehab in 2016. She has completed extensive research into the importance of sexuality – not just sex, but relationships, intimacy and self-esteem for people living with different abilities and bodies, ensuring a focus on quality of life. She is a respected presenter, advocate and an engaging storyteller.


Anita will be joined by Sarah Pelexas for approx 30min of the 2hour content - Sarah Palexas (she/they) shares over 18 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist (OT), working in a diverse range of mental health, psychosocial disability and academic settings. Sarah is currently the Principal OT at Thrive Rehab, a specialist private practice that provides LGBTQIA+ and gender affirming, neurodivergent affirming, sex positive, psychosocial disability and trauma informed OT services. Sarah is passionate about respectful practice, consent, cantering the client’s own lived experience as the anchor for understanding and building safe(r) therapeutic relationships; affirming OT practice is an imperative and benefits ALL clients!
